Spinning and Spinning

After grabbing a cup of coffee, I settled into my favorite chair, ready for some quiet time with God. But it was hard to focus. Out of the corner of my eye, I kept seeing my tea-cup Chihuahua spinning and spinning.

Pica spun to the left a few times, then tried to lie down—but the spot wasn’t right. She spun to the right, circled again, still restless. After a dozen or so spins back and forth, she finally found the place she was looking for. She curled up, closed her eyes, and drifted into peaceful sleep.

Are you spinning and spinning in your daily life?
Are you rushed, busy, pulled back and forth by life’s demands?
Are you in need of a place to rest?

Take a PAUSE right now.

Sit still. Maybe close your eyes. And rest for a few minutes. Breathe deeply and say to Jesus, “I need rest, O God. I need you, O Jesus!”

Stop spinning and simply be with God.

Breathe in and out.

I need you, O Jesus.

Now read these words and picture your own needs as well.

“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest’” (Mark 6:3).

The disciples had just returned from preaching repentance throughout Galilee, driving out demons, and healing the sick. That kind of work takes everything—body, mind, and soul. No wonder they didn’t even have time to pause for a fish sandwich by the lake.

But notice this: Jesus saw what they needed and invited them to receive it. They got into a boat with Him and found rest.

So, PAUSE and reflect. What do you need today? A meal? A midday walk? A few extra moments in God’s Word? A nap? Maybe simply closing this device and sitting in silence before Him?

Let Jesus meet you in your need.

Of course, rest isn’t the end of the story. As soon as Jesus and His disciples crossed the lake, crowds were already waiting—hungry for miracles and teaching. And a few hours later, Jesus fed thousands with a few loaves and fish.

Do you see the rhythm? Life spins and spins us, then we are invited to pause in Jesus’ presence. We rest so that we can return to the spinning, ready to serve in our callings. Then, at day’s end, God invites us again into rest.

May your spinning always lead you back to Jesus—the one true place where you can lie down, close your eyes, and rest in His presence.

Grace and Peace,
Anthony and Jake
