Megaphone Man

God speaks.

God has shown us in the stories of the Old Testament that He speaks whenever, however, and through whomever He desires.

Burning bushes. Donkeys. Pillar of fire and clouds. Out of thin air. The Word of the Lord coming to the prophets in miraculous ways. God spoke.

Years ago, I was in London sightseeing with a group from my university. I was walking down the street when a man with a megaphone was shouting at everyone about repenting or else they will burn in hell. Now, I do believe that without faith in Jesus we are lost and hopeless, destined for eternity without him. I don’t question that. However, I told megaphone man that I was baptized and I will be going to heaven. Megaphone man actually started calling into question the validity of my baptism, and if heaven was actually secure for me. I question his poor response. He started speaking as if He was speaking for God himself regarding my eternity. It was just weird. I left with a mixture of being mad about his approach and also doubting my faith.

I didn’t like the megaphone man. And I don’t think God was speaking through megaphone man that day.

But God does speak through His Word.

Take a moment to PAUSE and repeat this phrase (from Hebrews 4:12) seven times silently before the Lord. (Seven just sounds like a nice number… oh, it’s Biblical too)

For the word of God is alive and active.
For the word of God is alive and active.
For the word of God is alive and active.
For the word of God is alive and active.
For the word of God is alive and active.
For the word of God is alive and active.
For the word of God is alive and active.

How does that make you feel?

I believe that this means that God uses the 66 Books of His Word in the Bible as his own megaphone to highlight verses we just need to hear when we need to hear them from whatever vehicles or apps he wants to use. Let me share from my own life as an example.

The other day a leader in my life led me and a group through Exodus 33 regarding Moses seeking God’s presence. The next day I took a leadership team through that passage. The next day both the Bible app’s verse of the day and Lectio365 focused on what? Exodus 33!

Now that was a megaphone to my heart that worked.

God speaks.

Are we listening?

I couldn’t escape Exodus 33. I didn’t even ask for it. Thank God I noticed the pattern and paused to let the word of God be a megaphone to my heart, soul, and mind.

Maybe this email blog is God’s megaphone to you.

PAUSE right now and sense where God is shouting at you from the Scriptures.

Go there now. Read a little. Linger with the phrases that He is speaking to you. Why

Because God speaks today through His Word for you and to you.I guess there is a Megaphone Man I like to hear from - Jesus in His Word.
