Let the Helper Help You

Help is on the way? No, help is here. Seriously, help is here, now, and forever.

PAUSE and picture the Holy Spirit.

What do you see? Feel? Sense?

We are Pentecost people. We are living in the reality that the Holy Spirit - the Helper is here!

Are you spiritually parched?

Maybe you are trying to follow Jesus by your own reason, strength, planning, and control. Maybe you are tired of drifting out of your lane. Maybe you know the right words — “I believe in the Holy Spirit” — but you have not prayed lately, “Come, Holy Spirit, come.”

The Spirit helps us stay on track to follow Jesus on His mission.

The Spirit convicts you through the Word, not to crush you, but to bring you to repentance. The Spirit names what we would rather excuse.

The Spirit converted you through the Gospel. When someone hears Jesus crucified and raised, believes, says “Jesus is Lord,” and is baptized into Christ, that is the Spirit at work.

The Spirit comforts you always with the promises of Christ. The Spirit helps you pray when you do not know what to pray. The Helper reminds us: you are forgiven, you are baptized, you belong to Jesus.

So today, do not try to hydrate your soul with willpower.

Let the Helper help you.

Pray slowly:

Come, Holy Spirit, come.
Fill me with Your presence.
Refresh me now by your power.
Point me to Jesus.
