Think About Such Things
What have you been thinking about today?
Your spouse's needs. The emails piling up. A lawn that needs mowing. Your next conversation with a team member. What's for lunch.
Or maybe deeper things are floating around in your mind. Your inability to say no. The sin you keep returning to over and over. Unresolved issues in your family. Church hurt. Worry and anxiety about a child or a friend.
What have you been thinking about today?
You've been thinking about a lot. I know you have. This pause isn't to dismiss these things; it's to give them to God and focus in on the best things.
Not everything we think about is good for our mind, body, and soul. Do you ever wish you could fill your day with thoughts of the best things?
Here's the good news: the Apostle Paul gives us great advice about what to think about today.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.
- Philippians 4:8
Think about such things.
Right now, PAUSE and breathe. And enjoy a chance to think about these things.
Think about whatever is true.
God is your Creator. You are loved by Jesus. God's Word was written for you. What else is true?
Think about whatever is noble.
God is love. God loves the world so much that Jesus died for all. The church is the body of Christ. What else is noble?
Think about whatever is right.
Compassion. Truth. Grace. The Ten Commandments. What else is right?
Think about whatever is pure.
Jesus. God's unconditional love for you. What else is pure?
Think about whatever is lovely.
Butterflies. Flowers. Hummingbirds. Baseball playoffs (okay, maybe that's just some of us). What else is lovely?
Think about whatever is admirable.
Jesus is Lord, King, and Savior. A man lovingly leading his family into God's Word. A woman of noble character. A child making a good decision. A student discovering more about their vocational calling. What else is admirable?
Think about whatever is excellent or praiseworthy.
Chocolate, football, paying off debt, and good friends are all excellent and worth praising God for. What else is excellent or praiseworthy?
Un-pause. Go and think about such things.
