Give Thanks

My family and I are still making our transition from Texas to Connecticut. We spent a few days living in hotels and for the last week we have basically been squatting in our empty apartment. All we have are some blow-up mattresses and what we could stuff in our suitcases. To say it has been stressful is an understatement, especially for someone like me who is a creature of habit and a control freak. I miss my ordered and organized life. I am sure God is trying to teach me to let go of my worldly attachments through this process. What can I say, I am a slow learner! But even so, yesterday I was blessed by something so unassuming.

A shower caddy.

As I got into the shower, I was surprised to see a simple shower caddy hanging from the shower head that Tanya had picked up from Target. When I saw it hanging there, keeping our shampoos and body washes organized, I took a deep sigh of relief and almost broke into tears, seriously. In that moment, I realized everything was going to be ok. The chaos is not forever. Peace and order will be restored to our lives.

The shower caddy reminded me to PAUSE and say a prayer of gratitude to the Lord for the small, simple things like a shower caddy.

It is easy to get distracted and overwhelmed with first-world problems, like I have been experiencing this past week.

As we take our Mid-Week Pause, I invite you to take a breath in. Breathe out. In. Out.

Read the following passage two or three times.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
-1 Thessalonians 5:16–18

As you PAUSE, what is one simple thing you can thank God for today? A shower caddy? A cup of coffee? An encouraging word from a friend?

Linger in the simple act of thanksgiving.

Lord, thank you for all of the small, often overlooked, blessings in our lives. Help us be more attuned to your work in our lives.

Now, I invite you to go back into your day with a heart to see the simple blessings in your life.
